The street signs reflect the names used in cities around the United States that utilize Native American Names as a street name. Sometimes that is the only way our current population knows the names of the 565 tribes today. The beaded scenery is completed on a cow hide signifying our relationship with wildlife. I created a buffalo heart using colored pencils and I copied the heart 565 times, for each of the federally recognized tribes. This mound is a sad reminder of what has happened to the indigenous people of America and its main food source for the plains Indians. We have spent so much time and money making oil our main source of energy and resources. If scientists can come up with a way to make clothing with oil, cotton, silk and hemp, I know for a fact that we can put our minds together to create a beautiful Earth for the children. It will take a lot of work. Lets face it, it already took us a lot of work to create a society solely dependent on oil. This is only the beginning for me and my awakening for the protection of our fresh water sources. I have seen the devastation an oil spill causes when I went to Valdez, Alaska. There are still oil pockets on the shore and the spill happened in 1989.
